The gut microbiome, the community of bacteria that live in the digestive tract, plays a key role in childhood nutrition and health. Two pediatric gastroenterologists, Dr. Suchi Hourigan of INOVA and Dr. Sean Moore of UVa, will partner with neonatology colleagues at their institutions to study how feeding practices in neonatal intensive care units influence the composition and function of the gut microbiome in premature babies to produce beneficial or adverse growth outcomes.”
